"Beat the Heat Bike Ride" Santa Clara to Sunnyvale, 7/2/23 by Ronald Horii
On 7/2/23, temperatures were in the mid-90s inland. The roads to the coast were jammed with traffic. To beat the heat and the traffic, I decided to go for a bike ride to San Francisco Bay. Temperatures around the Bay were much lower. I started in Santa Clara near the Rivermark Plaza Shopping Center. I like to park close to the police station there, so I know my car will be safe. I parked by Live Oak Park and rode to Thamien Park, which has access to the Guadalupe River Trail. I crossed over the river on the bridge to the San Jose side of the river. The trail is paved on that side. I rode the trail to Alviso, where I saw the newly-painted mural on the restroom. I then rode down Gold Street to the Bay Trail entrance on Great America Parkway. I followed the Bay Trail to the Sunnyvale Baylands. I rode up the retired landfill hill there to take in the views. I saw the huge new Google campus under construction from one side of the hill. From the other side, I could see the complex of channels and ponds in the baylands. I rode back and stopped off at Ulistac Natural Area in Santa Clara to see what was growing. I posted pictures from this trip in near real-time in multiple posts, taken by my phone. I thought I should combine the posts and turn those pictures into one album, supplemented by pictures from my travelzoom camera. I edited the pictures and added comments, with links.
