Prescribed Burn Aftermath, Santa Teresa County Park, 6/30/23 by Ronald Horii
There was a prescribed burn/firefighter training in Santa Teresa County Park from 6/28-30/23. Here are pictures from 6/28-29: https://tinyurl.com/2p9yy4bn. 6/30 was a hot day, with temperatures in the 90's. One of the rangers previously said it might be cancelled due to concerns about air quality. I went to the park in the afternoon around 4 pm on 6/30. I didn't see any active fires, fire equipment, or firefighters. There were just park staffers, dressed in fire jackets, having a meeting in the Pueblo Area. I heard that there was a burn earlier in the day, but they left early due to rising temperatures and unsafe burn conditions. I parked in the small parking lot on Bernal Road and walked down into the Pueblo Area and back. These are pictures I took along the way. While in the Pueblo Area, I checked on the new sycamore forest. Here's more about it: "Sycamore Forest Update, Santa Teresa Park's Pueblo Area, 4/7/23":
