MCP Master Gardeners' Native Plant & Habitat Gardens, 4/15/23 by Ronald Horii
I went to Martial Cottle Park on 4/15/23 to see the Spring Garden Fair at the UC Master Gardeners' parcel (https://mgsantaclara.ucanr.edu/demonstration-gardens/martial-cottle-park/). The event is covered in this album: https://tinyurl.com/a342p69z. While I was visiting, I looked at their California Native Garden and Habitat Garden. Here are pictures of them. The California Native Garden is planted only with native California plants. The Habitat Garden has plants that attract pollinators, like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It has mostly native plants, but some are non-natives that flower when the natives are not in bloom. I saw the Native Garden last year on 4/9/22, when the parcel was open: https://tinyurl.com/yeyk8zsd. The flowers blooming were a little different then. CNPS got a guided a tour of the garden on 10/16/21 by Master Gardener Ann Finney, showing what the garden looks like in the fall: https://tinyurl.com/3u9zzpdk. The Master Gardeners' parcel is open to the public during their regular work hours: Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9–noon.
