Rancho San Vicente Trails, Views, & Wildflowers, 3/30/23 by Ronald Horii
After weeks of rainy weather, there was a dry and partly sunny day on 3/31/23.
I went to the Rancho San Vicente entrance to Calero County Park. Normally, it is very popular with mountain bikers, but due to wet conditions, all the trails in the park are temporarily closed to bikes and horses. Hiking is still allowed. The parking lot, which is normally busy, was nearly deserted. There's been more work recently to add more rocks to the trails to help reduce muddy conditions. However, there has been so much rain lately, there are still muddy spots. Once you get to the serpentine areas of the park, the trails and hills are rockier, so they are less muddy, and there are more wildflowers. This year, the wildflowers are coming out a little later than last year, probably due to the cooler weather. They are just starting to come out and haven't reached their peak yet. This is a preview of the bloom to come in the following weeks. There are nice views from the park of the South Almaden Valley, New Almaden Valley, and the Bay Area. On a clear day, you can see all the way to San Francisco, Oakland, and Mt. Tamalpais. Here are more pictures of Calero: http://www.rhorii.com/#Calero-RanchoSanVicente ...
