Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve After the Rains, 1/25/23 by Ronald Horii
After several weeks of above-average rain that had caused widespread flooding and trail closures, we've had dry weather for more than a week. The dry spell has given the trails some time to dry out and for creeks to settle down. The trails at the Open Space Authority Preserves were closed to bikes and equestrians during and after the rains, but now they are open again. I hiked the Arrowhead Loop Trail to see what the trail conditions were like. I wanted to see how the trails have stood up to the rains. These pictures show what I found. I was also doing a trail patrol, counting users. I counted 16 hikers, 2 runners, and 7 bikes. There were no horses. The temperatures were in the 60's. There was a strong breeze blowing in the open areas. My hat kept blowing off. There were 6 cars in the parking lot when I started at 2 pm, and 10 when I left at 4:30 pm. Here are more of my pictures of Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve: http://www.rhorii.com/#CoyoteValley.
