SVBC King Tide Bike Ride, Sunnyvale Baylands to Alviso, 1/22/23 by Ronald Horii
On 1/22/23, the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) held an event to coincide with the King Tides. The King Tides are the highest tides of the year. They occur in the winter. There were King Tides on the weekend of 1/20-22/23. This is the description of the event, from SVBC: "The high tides of today are the regular tides of tomorrow. Ride bikes with SVBC and community partners to see the King Tide and the South Bay Shoreline Protection Project in Alviso, CA. This is an easy and slow 4-mile round trip bike ride suitable for beginners. This event is a wonderful opportunity to learn in-person about how leadership of the South Bay area is responding to the threat of rising sea levels. You won't want to miss it!" The event started at Sunnyvale Baylands Park and went down the Bay Trail to Alviso Marina County Park. There were speakers at the start and end of the ride.
The speakers were: Eleni Jacobson, Community Programs Coordinator for SVBC;
Richard Santos, Valley Water Board of Directors;
Linda Hutchins-Knowles, Mothers Out Front;
Dave Halsing, South Bay Salt Ponds Restoration Project;
James Ujah, Valley Water; and
Jeneya Fertel, US Army Corps of Engineers.
