Lexington County Park to Sierra Azul OSP, 1/20/23 by Ronald Horii
On 1/20/23, I went to Lexington County Park to see how the park and reservoir looked after weeks of above-normal rain. Less than a week ago, the reservoir was spilling: https://www.kron4.com/video/lexington-reservoir-over-100-percent-full/8309724/. I went after several days of dry weather and releases from the reservoir, so water was no longer flowing over the dam's spillway, but it was close to it. I last saw it spill in 2017 (https://tinyurl.com/2fbbf6w8). After checking out the lake, I drove to the trailhead for the Limekiln Trail. There's a waterfall that can be seen from the trail. I saw it in 2019 (https://tinyurl.com/y5wbjxom). I hiked about a half mile to the waterfall. I could have turned around, but I decided to keep going. I continued on the Limekiln Trail, which makes a long, moderately steep climb through shady forests in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, then meets the Priest Rock Trail. I went down the Priest Rock, which is a steep and sunny trail. I got to the trailhead at sunset and walked back along the road to my car.
