Morland Place, Grey County, Owen Sound, Ontario by Ann Lynn Gilbert Nature Photography
We were traveling through (Rockford) Grey County, Ontario when we met Mr. Barry More at Morland Place, a ten acre European style garden surrounding Morland Hall. Barry is a self-trained architect, engineer and home restorer, that is him standing in the doorway of Morland Hall. The grounds are beautifully landscaped by Barry and almost all the garden art he created from molds he made or bought. His attention to detail is wonderful as you can see in the photos of Morland Hall that he designed and built over the past 50+ years. In his book A Thing of Beauty: The Story of Morland Place by Barry Joseph More (ISBN: 978-1-897502-27-3) he explains in detail how he created and made this property into what it is today.

I wonder if he has any photos of the stables (storage buildings) when they were in use?

Wow! What a beautiful place! Are folks aloud to come by and check out the place? Perhaps hold a family photo shoot inside and in the yard?

We visited today. Grounds are open daily and a $3 donation is suggested. House is open only when Mr. More is there and luckily he was there today. What a charming wealth of information!

We visited Moreland Place on July 21 2016 and had the good fortunate to meet Barry. He graciously walked us through the house. The man is a wealth of information on older landmarks across Ontario. We enjoyed every minute of our time talking to him and exploring the gardens. We purchased his book and after reading it, we will definitely visit Moreland again, there are many questions we would still like to ask him. If we lived in the area we would be asking him if we could volunteer to help keep the gardens.
