Alum Rock Park BioBlitz, 12/11/22 by Ronald Horii
On Saturday 12/11/22, there was a BioBlitz in Alum Rock Park. Here's the description: "Located in the Eastern Foothills of San Jose, this park is a safe haven for many species of plants and animals right along Coyote Creek. Join Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful and BioBlitz.club in cataloging and documenting all of the living things that reside there. We will have experts in various fields to help guide participants through all the cool plants and wildlife.
The best part? All you need to participate is a smart phone with the iNaturalist app!
So bring your family and prepare for an in-depth tour of this great park." The event was led by Merav Vonshak, who organizes BioBlitzes all over the county. Merav created this website for BioBlitzes: https://www.bioblitz.club/ and this Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bioblitz.club. It was sponsored by Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful: https://www.keepcoyotecreekbeautiful.org/. https://www.facebook.com/CoyoteCreekSJ/. Here's the project page for this BioBlitz: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/alum-rock-winter-2022-bioblitz. Here are project pages for previous Alum Rock Park BioBlitzes: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/search?utf8=✓&q=Alum+Rock+Park.
Here's what Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful said about this event:
"Here are some highlights:
We had a total of 44 attendees look and recording living things. Together we made 275 observations.
In total we found 110 different species (impressive!)."

Here are more of my pictures of past BioBlitzes: http://www.rhorii.com/#Bioblitz. Here are more of my pictures of Alum Rock Park and Penitencia Creek: http://www.rhorii.com/#AlumRock. The recent rains have transformed the park, particular the creeks. It's a lot different from the last BioBlitz I went to here, which was in July: https://tinyurl.com/5behjp8t.
