Blossom Hill Road Trail Ribbon Cutting, Shady Oaks Park, 11/18/22 by Ronald Horii
On 11/18/22, there was a ribbon cutting celebration for the new trail that was part of the US 101/Blossom Hill Road Interchange Improvement Project. It was held at Shady Oaks Park at the south entrance to the Odette Morrow Trail. It was hosted by the Valley Transportation Authority, the City of San Jose, and Caltrans. The project was funded by VTA Measure B of 2016. The Master of Ceremonies was Carolyn Gonot, VTA General Manager. Speakers were State Assembly Member Ash Kalra, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, and Caltrans District 4 Deputy Director Doanh Nguyen. Also attending was San Jose District 2 Councilmember Sergio Jimenez. After the speeches, there was a ribbon cutting on the new trail. Then there was a guided walk on the new trail. Snacks were provided. Here are pictures of the event. (I'll add captions later, but I don't know everybody.) The trail actually opened a few weeks ago. I explored it: Blossom Hill Road Crossing to the Coyote Creek Trail, 10/18/22: https://tinyurl.com/truvva4h. The new trail connection allowed me to do something I could never do safely before: bike from home, which is south of 101, to the Coyote Creek Trail. It provides safe passage for bikes and pedestrians over Highway 101. I took this Bike Ride From Home to Santa Teresa to Hellyer, 10/22/22: https://tinyurl.com/4yw9826e.
