Albertson Parkway Weeding, Before and After, 6/8/21, 10/27/22 by Ronald Horii
The Albertson Parkway is a City of San Jose Trail which opened in July of 2009. It runs for about 0.6 miles under a power line right-of-way. It runs from Dondero Way near Santa Teresa Elementary School to Curie Drive at Manila Way near Santa Teresa County Park. The trail used to be a straight unlandscaped path under the power lines, usually lined with weeds. It was turned into a meandering path with landscaping and interpretive signs. This is what it looked like when it was brand new: http://www.stpfriends.org/AlbPkwy/AP.html. The plants were new, and there was fresh bark mulch covering the ground. Over the years, weeds began to invade the landscaping. Though there have been weeding efforts over the years, last year it was particularly bad. Earlier this year, weed clearing began. Now, it looks like most of the weeds have been removed, and they are doing some restoration of the landscaping. It must have been a lot of work. Here are before-and-after pictures, comparing 6/8/21 to now.
