Kitty Monahan at Almaden Quicksilver Events 2002-2020 by Ronald Horii
Kitty Monahan passed away on July 25, 2022 at the age of 89. She co-founded the New Almaden Quicksilver County Park Association (NAQCPA) in 1983 and was its president for nearly 40 years. She was a long-term volunteer with the Santa Clara County Parks. She accumulated 14,000 lifetime volunteer hours with the County Parks. In 2014, she received the Lifetime Presidential Volunteer Award for her work with the parks. On 5/21/22, she was awarded the Preservation Lifetime Achievement Award from the Santa clara County Preservation Alliance. She also received a commendation from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. Here's a biography of Kitty from 2018: https://www.livingalmadenhistory.com/post/kitty-monahan. Here's her obituary: https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/07/31/kitty-monahan-champion-for-santa-clara-countys-parks-dead-at-89/. She attended many events at Almaden Quicksilver. These are pictures I have of her at some of these events. It also includes field trips with NAQCPA members. If the events have albums, webpages, or slideshows about them, I put links to them. The earliest digital pictures I have of her are from 2002. I got my first decent digital camera at the end of 2001. I made this webpage in 2001, while I was still using film, and it has the earliest online pictures I have of Kitty: http://www.newalmaden.org/AQSPark/VanTour/Vantour.html. I knew Kitty through the Friends of Santa Teresa Park. She was the Vice President, and I became the secretary around 2000. Here are pictures of her at Santa Teresa Park events: https://tinyurl.com/3bpuxyjz. Kitty was called the "Mayor of New Almaden" because she was so active in the community. She was a member of the New Almaden Community Club and helped to organize their annual New Almaden Day. Here are pictures of her at New Almaden Days: https://tinyurl.com/nadacevm. NAQCPA had an annual Christmas party at Mike and Dorene Boulland's house. I started going to them in 2014. Here are pictures of Kitty at those parties: https://tinyurl.com/nadacevm. Here's NAQCPA's website: http://www.newalmaden.com/ NAQCPA's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/343033007699393.
