Kitty Monahan at New Almaden Days 2006-2019 by Ronald Horii
Kitty Monahan passed away on July 25, 2022 at the age of 89. She lived in New Almaden and has long been a towering figure in the community. She has been called the "mayor" of New Almaden. Each year for decades, the community has held their annual Jump-In Parade and carnival. The parade loops around the town starting at the New Almaden Community Center on Bertram Road and returning on Almaden Road. As it passes by, anybody can jump in and join it. Afterwards, there's a carnival at the Community Center, with food, games, music, and a raffle. I don't live in New Almaden, but I knew Kitty from the Friends of Santa Teresa Park. She invited me to the celebration. The first digital pictures that I have of it are from 2006.
I haven't been to all the New Almaden Days, and I don't have all the pictures online. Here are the ones that I've been to and have pictures of Kitty. Here's a list and links to New Almaden Day pictures that I have online: http://www.newalmaden.org/#NewAlmadenDays.
New Almaden Day was canceled during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. It will resume on September 10, 2022. It's too bad that Kitty won't be there to see it. I'm sure there will be some kind of remembrance of her at the event.
