FOSTP and Volunteer Cleanup at the Bernal Ranch, 7/1/22 by Ronald Horii
On 7/1/22, the Friends of Santa Teresa Park held another First Friday work day at the Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch in Santa Teresa County Park. However, this time, there were additional volunteers recruited by the County Parks' Volunteer Office. FOSTP members there were Greg, Joan, Mike, and me. Mike had to go on a trip, so couldn't stay long, but he gave an orientation talk to the new volunteers. Joan worked around the ranch house, along with most of the new volunteers. There was a lot of tough, highly invasive Bermuda grass growing in and around the garden boxes. The Butterfly Box also needed more work. Meanwhile, Greg and I went to tackle the blackberries that were smothering the ceanothus bushes along the walkway by the barns. We started that in previous work days, but blackberries grow fast, and there was more work to do. We gave instructions to the young volunteers who came to help. Below are pictures of the work day, with pictures of how the garden boxes and ceanothus bushes looked on 6/23/22 for comparison. This is from our cleanup day on 6/3/22: https://tinyurl.com/3uw2macu.
