Grant House Re-opening, Joseph D. Grant County Park, 6/18/22 by Ronald Horii
On 6/18/22, there was a grand re-opening of the Grant Ranch House in Joseph D. Grant County Park. The original ranch house was built by Adam Hubbard in 1882. The ranch was acquired by Joseph Donohoe Grant, a prominent businessman, who wanted to establish his own rancho. The ranch house was expanded and remodeled starting in the 1930s, with other buildings added, along with a swimming pool. The ranch house complex became an elegant country estate for the wealthy family. It remained in the Grant Family until 1972. It was acquired by Santa Clara County, along with the surrounding lands in 1975. Joseph D. Grant County Park opened to the public in 1978. Over the years, the ranch house and other buildings began to suffer from exposure to the elements and nature. Woodpeckers had caused significant damage to wood on the buildings and water tank. In 2012, the Parks Department completed an Historic Structures Report for the Grant Ranch House Complex. It identified restoration work that needed to be done. That effort took several years, but it's finally completed. This event celebrates the re-opening of the ranch house.
Prior to the re-opening, I stopped at Grant Lake and saw lots of birds:

After the dedication ceremony outside, I toured the inside of the house:
