Elkhorn Slough, Kirby Park, 6/10/22 by Ronald Horii
On 6/10/22, a friend of mine brought me to see Kirby Park, a popular boat launching spot on Elkhorn Slough near Watsonville. He's been there many times canoeing. I've only been there once many years ago, but I didn't hike it. I don't remember there being a trail back then. Now there's an ADA-accessible trail that leads northwest from the parking lot and goes for about a half mile along the edge of the slough. Part of it goes on an elevated wooden boardwalk. There's an unmaintained trail that goes a little farther, and it leads to a surprise. Here's more information about Kirby Park:

A few miles south of Kirby Park on Elkhorn Road is Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Research. It covers 1700 acres and has trails and a visitor center. The reserve has limited hours.
