Calero Water & Wags Festival, 5/7/22 by Ronald Horii
On 5/7/22, the inaugural "Water & Wags Festival" was held at the boat launching ramp area of Calero County Park. This was the description: "This special event will include a resource fair focused on preventing protecting our water systems, boater and personal safety, and the value of companion animals in the community. The event will feature the beautiful Calero Reservoir, and this is a wonderful opportunity to share information, services, and resources with the local community.

Families are welcome! Well-mannered leashed furry friends are welcome!"

One of the main themes of the festival is the prevention of the invasion of the county's waterways by quagga and zebra mussels. They can be spread from contaminated waterways by watercraft. Vessel inspections are intended to prevent that. "Mussel dogs" are specially trained to sniff out the presence of mussels on boats.
