Spreckles Hill BioBlitz, 4/18/22 by Ronald Horii
On 4/18/22, there was this event at Spreckles Hill in the North Coyote Valley: "Enjoy a Bioblitz for Beginners at Spreckles Hill on the edge of San Jose and Morgan Hill.
Have you ever wondered how to play a part in nature conservation? You can help keep track of the plants and animals in your neighborhood and provide scientists and nature protectors with valuable information! Join us for a lunchtime Bioblitz for Beginners at Spreckles Hill in South San Jose to learn the ropes of citizen science. Expert docents will guide and teach you to use the iNaturalist app on your smartphone to record all the living things you find around this important habitat. Trees, butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, birds, and squirrels. We love them all - now let's go find them!" The event was organized by the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority (OSA), in partnership with Merav Vonshak of the BioBlitz Club.
The event was run by OSA Educational Program Coordinator Michelle Garcia. It was held in the Spreckles Hill Area, part of the North Coyote Valley Conservation Area, which is managed by the OSA. They have held several events at Spreckles Hill, and a large one is planned for this weekend.
