Martial Cottle Hedgerow Weeding Day, 4/9/22 by Ronald Horii
The Friends of Martial Cottle Park (FOMCP), in partnership with the Santa Clara County Parks, planted a hedgerow in Martial Cottle Park. It's 921 feet long by 20 feet wide, planted between the trail and the farm fields along Chynoweth Avenue. It's planted entirely with native plant species. The farm fields and adjacent trail shoulder are full of highly invasive non-native weeds, like thistles, mustard, foxtails, cheeseweed, etc. They have been invading the hedgerow and are starting to crowd out the native plants. Volunteers, along with park staff and FOMCP members, have been pulling the weeds. There have been 2 previous weeding sessions on 2/26/22 and 3/4/22. This one here was on 4/9/22 from 9-noon. It's the last one scheduled so far, but there could be more.
There was a workday on 11/14/21, where volunteers planted more plants: https://tinyurl.com/49jbvdjk
