Hellyer Park Mural Project, 3/25/22 by Ronald Horii
In February, artist Paul J. Gonzalez invited volunteers to come help paint a restroom at Hellyer County Park. This is how he described it: "Hello everyone!
Come by on Sunday to see me lead a group of volunteers from Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful to paint this mural at the Hellyer County Park bathroom at Cottonwood Lake. The mural was initiated by Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful via a casual conversation with Santa Clara County Parks staff. It's amazing what can come out of a chat among colleagues.
I designed this nature-themed mural with input from park users and residents, and features the beauty of Coyote Creek and its watershed, including a coyote, bugs, birds, and plant life..." A group of volunteers came on 2/27/22 to help Paul paint the mural. They included adults, kids, park staff, County Parks Director Don Rocha, and Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez. You can see some pictures of the event on Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CoyoteCreekSJ. Here's Paul J. Gonzalez's webpage: http://www.pauljgonzalezartstudios.com/. On 3/25/22, I rode my bike to Hellyer County Park and stopped to see the mural project. I found Paul working on it. He had a truck full of paint cans. I don't know how he keeps track of all the colors. He says he has a couple more weeks of work left. It's looking amazing.
