R/C Planes at SCCMAS, Coyote Creek Trail, 1/2/22 by Ronald Horii
On 1/2/22, I went for a bike ride on the Coyote Creek Trail, primarily to see the high water in Coyote Creek. Here are pictures I took of the creek: https://tinyurl.com/2p8vh38a
Along the way, I noticed there were planes flying at the Santa Clara County Model Aircraft Skypark (https://sccmas.org/). I was surprised to see how many people were there. I used to stop by SCCMAS all the time while biking along the trail. There were usually lots of R/C pilots there flying their planes. They would have competitions and airshows, including the huge show in July (https://tinyurl.com/y33vkytj). However, the Coyote Creek flood in 2017 washed out the road to the field. This meant the only way to get there was by a miles-long walk or bike ride on the Coyote Creek Trail. The field was also closed for several months in 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2021, a new access road was built (https://tinyurl.com/5c67z7z5). The new road opened on June 19, 2021, but to SCCMAS members only i(https://tinyurl.com/e23p9akr), and only on weekends. The road is now open daily from 8 am to sunset, but still for SCCMAS members only. All on-site events are suspended for 2022. You can still see a wide variety of planes at the field. This what I saw when I stopped by. I'm not an R/C plane owner or expert, just a fan.
