OptOutside at North Coyote Valley Conservation Area, 11/26/21 by Ronald Horii
On the day after Thanksgiving, on 11/26/21, there was an event, called "OptOutside" at the Laguna Seca portion of the North Coyote Valley Conservation Area (NCVCA). It was an outdoor alternative to Black Friday shopping. Here is the description:

"It’s the day after Thanksgiving...what can you do with your family and friends while avoiding the post-holiday shopping rush? Come to the North Coyote Valley Conservation Area to appreciate time with your loved ones and enjoy a much-needed outdoor experience! Take a walk in the crisp, fall air. Try some art. Experiment with nature journaling. See if you can spot some migratory birds. Bring a family picnic (Thanksgiving leftovers, anyone?).
The preserve will open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for you and your family and friends to drop in and enjoy. Bicycles are welcome. To protect the sensitive wildlife that call this preserve home, please leave your pets at home.
Join one of our guided activities, or simply show up to explore and enjoy the preserve on your own!"
The North Coyote Valley Conservation Area covers 937 acres and was purchased in 2019 by the City of San Jose, the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), and the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority (OSA). It is managed by the OSA. Laguna Seca is in the northwest corner. It is not open to the public yet, but there have been several events here. This was the first NCVCA event I've been to since before the pandemic. The last event I went to there, just days before pandemic shutdown, was on 3/4/20:

While at this event, I went on a solo hike to explore the south part of the preserve. Here are pictures from that hike: https://tinyurl.com/3p29nux7
There is a Master Plan in process for the Conservation Areas. Public input is invited: https://www.openspaceauthority.org/our-work/current-projects/coyote-valley-conservation-areas-master-plan.html
