Coyote Creek Trail Culvert Project, 10/8/21 by Ronald Horii
On 10/8/21, I went on this group bike ride along the Coyote Creek Trail: https://tinyurl.com/uxhkd8vm
I read that the trail would be closed from Metcalf Road to Bailey Ave. 10/5-8 for installation of culverts. Fortunately, construction was complete when we got there, and the trail was open. We got to see the newly-installed culverts. I saw they were in a part of the trail that gets frequently flooded when the Coyote Creek flow is high. Sometimes it results in trail closure. Even when it's not closed, the wet trail can be a safety hazard. I saw a bicyclist who was injured in an accident due to the slippery trail surface. Coyote Creek has been dry for months, and ponds along the creek are dry or low. It's an ideal time to do work to improve drainage and prevent trail flooding. The culverts should allow water to flow under the trail instead of over it.
