Exploring DeBell Uvas Creek Park & Trail, Gilroy, Part1, 7/31/21 by Ronald Horii
On 7/31/21, after exploring the new Hecker Pass Trail along Uvas Creek in Gilroy
(see https://tinyurl.com/z6vckxs2), I kept going to see the older trail along Uvas Creek.
Here's a map: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/california/debell-park-and-uvas-creek-loop?mobileMap=false&ref=sidebar-static-map
On 9/18/21, I continued the loop and explored Christmas Hill Park in this album, which is Part 2: https://tinyurl.com/3s9scvec
I also went to explore the rest of the Hecker Pass Trail: https://tinyurl.com/r4788vke.
The trail runs mostly through 125-acre Dennis DeBell Uvas Creek Preserve: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uvas_Creek_Preserve
Starting in 2018, the levee and trail were rehabilitated by Valley Water: https://www.valleywater.org/sites/default/files/Draft-Uvas%20Creek%20ISND-042718_App%20A_with%20signature_forprint.pdf
The preserve is named after the late Dennis DeBell. He was a builder, city councilman, and Water District director who donated $1 million dollars to preserve and restore the section of Uvas Creek that now bears his name. https://gilroydispatch.com/million-dollar-day-for-the-debell-family/
