Vasona Lake in the Drought, 9/4/21 by Ronald Horii
On 9/4/21, I went for a bike ride through Vasona Lake County Park and down the Los Gatos Creek Trail. I started at Vasona. Despite the drought, the lake was nearly full. People were fishing, boating, and picnicking around the lake. Lots of people were using the Los Gatos Creek Trail. The train and merry-go-round were running at Oak Meadow Park next door. Los Gatos Creek is flowing into the lake, bring fresh water from Lexington Reservoir, though at much lower levels than normal. A small amount is flowing out from the Vasona Dam and into Los Gatos Creek. That flow would normally be used to fill the percolation ponds downstream, but it's not enough. Instead, the ponds are being filled with imported water, which is another story.

All of the valley reservoirs are at less than 50% capacity, except for one: Vasona, which is the smallest.
