Old Barn Reconstruction at the BGJ Ranch, 12/19/11 by Friends Of Santa Teresa Park
In 2011, the East Barn in Santa Teresa Park's Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch was restored, after many years of slowing decaying to the point where it looked like it could fall down in the slightest breeeze. The wood was in such bad shape that most of it could not be saved. The barn was mostly rebuilt using new wood and modern methods, but in the same shape as the old barn. A coast live oak tree was growing next to the corner of the barn. To protect it and the barn, the barn's footprint was relocated several feet away from the tree. Here's what the barn looked like when the inner framework was done, and the other sheathing was bring installed.
