The Silicon Fire in the Basking Ridge Hills, 6/14/21 by Ronald Horii
There was a fire today in the foothills east of South San Jose. It was called the Silicon Fire because it was near Silicon Valley Blvd. It was in the hills above the Basking Ridge neighborhood. 35 acres burned. It was first reported at 11:35 am. Cal Fire and the San Jose Fire Department, including air resources, fought the fire. They stopped forward progress at 1:27 pm and brought it under control at 2:35 pm, before it spread to nearby homes. PG&E reported it likely was sparked by metallic mylar balloons contacting power lines. No homes were damaged, but at least one structure was threatened. These are views from a hill behind the Basking Ridge neighborhood, off a service road. Fire crews used this service road to get to the fire. These pictures were taken at around 5 pm. The fire was under control by then, and fire crews were leaving. This is Cal Fire's incident report: https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2021/6/14/silicon-fire/
