See the excellent paper by Levi (1985) "The spiny orb-weaver genera Micrathena and Chaetacis (Araneae: Araneidae)". Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool. 150(8):429-618. It's free online at biodiversity heritage library. It gives a very complete overview of Micrathena, with many excellent drawings, maps and keys, making for quite easy diagnosis of many of these.

So many amazing pictures of beetles and grasshoppers and spiders and leafhoppers and butterflies and moths and, well, wow! That cicada was especially interesting. I have never seen that particular type before. I loved the bright red dragonfly. I'd be wanting to bring home specimens of so many of those amazing bugs! I know that they don't last long on the jungle floor, but I'd sure be keeping my eyes peeled for any that had died and were still intact. And as a lepidopterist, butterflies and moths, but most especially butterflies being my passion and my favorite of all of God's bug creations, I think I'd go a little nuts just looking at all the different butterflies, moths, and caterpillars. I loved that big gorgeous green caterpillar. So pretty! Thank you for sharing these amazing pictures, and for giving me so many great butterfly and moth pics to save.
