Hey Curty, I am pulling for you guys in a big way. I got Reckoning the day it was released. After my buddy saw me playing he got his own copy a week later. This was a first class game. For what it’s worth I have been trying to spread the love everywhere I can. I even went as far as to email Microsoft; any company that is not interested in a game of this quality has a screw loose.

Yeah, Heaven forbid it gets interest enough to get the burden off of RI and back into the hands that could get the product released. You should be asking for more.

The whole point is about your hypocritical public comments about things you know nothing about over the years Your "public comment' that you lost 49 million is this venture is laughable PROVE IT

Hey Derek, thanks for your input. I always appreciate a fresh perspective. Although it seems as if your internal sources may be wrong. EA's president confirmed Reckoning was a success and sold over 1million units.
"EA president Frank Gibeau said " 'Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning' got great scores from critics and sold more than a million units. It's a great intellectual property and we hope there's a sequel.""

@Philtres It doesn't belong to RI, hopefully never will and like Jake said "Heaven forbid it gets interest enough to get the burden off of RI".

you have to go to the source. I'll take the president of the publishing company over a journalists spin.

according to employees inside the studio the sales needed were no where near 3M units needed. That was a lie. They hadn't been paid yet, if their royalty's had come in it would have covered them for long enough for their financiers to wrap up which was literally weeks away from happening according to some staff.

A major problem here is that incorrect/ missing information is rampant regarding this story across news outlets. They often copy each other so you see the same wrong info, assume each entity is reporting seperately, so you think it must be true.
38 Studios got money up front for KoA so there was no revenue or expectation of such after it's release. The info is in the physical PJ paper as is a LOT of pertinent information of how things went down.
Also, 38 Studios never got the full 75M, only a 1/3 of it although they had been paying on 75M since last year (5M last year, roughly 3.625 this year since they reportedly paid this month) That brings the "cost for RI residence" number down from 112M to about 79M with interest by my estimates.

Shellgame stop hiding behind an alias. What Chafee "cares" about is fixing his terrible 22% approval rating.

I gotta admit, I'm not at all a fan of MMOs. That said, I love this world. Please, you guys, lets find some way to get Amalur to live on!

Sucks that the MMO will never go out to the public; but more importantly, would much rather see the State of RI paid back...regardle ss of the game.

Hey Philtres, I'm just curious, but wasn't the payments Curt owed the state already paid this month, and up through 2014 since they still have 25M in reserve specifically for the cost of the loans? It seems like you're jumping the gun a little bit. Shoot Chafee says he's speaking to the studio on a daily basis still. He hasn't said the state owes anything yet that I've seen.

Derek, do you have information on this not available yet to the public? I know you have an extensive background in online games and the business therein but what your asserting assumes much.
I'd be interested to know how you can up with the totals to save KoA and Copernicus. Granted, we haven't seen more than a fly through and images of a few races but I'd assume the six years of development and some, if not most, of the 50M has gone to Copernicus. I'd be surprised if what we've seen is all they have.
As far as KoA2 one of the developers stated they were already working on it.
No one without additional information knows how close each project is to being done or the money spent on each so far.

I heard on the radio he conned RI out of 75M, good for him

There are a lot of reasons why this is personal, it seems to me
11 vIlmianna
Art Vanderlay
lt is certainly personal to the employees several of home moved to ri based in part upon a promise by 38 to buy their houses in ma if necessary- and who now are not only unemployed and uninsured by now have now means to enforce these promises it is personal to the residents of ri who are now out 110 million (cost of guarantee plus interest per bond pros) $105 per resident -more than 20%of what ri pays per year for public safety-cops etc it is personal because the only reason the gov gave this foolish loan was because of the peronality-i.e. schilling involved it is personal because schilling made it personal when he created and fostered this cult of personality that is now revealed to be the height of hyprocrisy

The character model leaked screens looked jaw droppingly amazing. Stylized animated whimsical races, the Jottun, the human and dwarf based races,... Will we ever get to see more of this game and learn what you had planned combat wise?

You should revitalize the game in Kickstarter.

It's highly unlikely that Kickstarter would raise enough funds to finish the MMO (the most successful projects so far from big names have only raised a fraction of what 38Studios apparently needs), and even if it did, it would be a community management nightmare. MMO fans are vocal enough when they've just bought a game outright - let alone handed over money before the game's even finished and think of themselves as something akin to shareholders.
I love Reckoning, and as a player I desperately want to see the MMO finished. I hope there's some miracle that can save it.

I wish I understood the difference of the different business models out there. Before Kickstarter came around, a company I have been following for over a decade had a new product they wanted build and they pitched the idea to the community and listed who was working on the project, what features would be included, and the like, and even allowed people to preorder this piece of software 1 year in advance. They still made at least $2 million over night, and I believe it was around $20M after the first month for the software even before folks could try it. They had a substantially smaller audience, and the product was VERY expensive. It was $3,000 and $1,000 for the little brother version of the same thing. The people buying didn't have any say so in how it was made, however if they were the top buyers they got early access before everyone else. I think with a much larger audience that would make up a MMO there would be a much larger pool that people could pay into. They could cap off the payment plans with specific rewards like the kickstarter does, so the person paying in knows exactly what he's getting, and there's only a few slots for the really good rewards. If they exceed their goals, then they typically take a community vote of how to spend the extra money. The nice thing about Kickstarter is no one actually has to pay anything if they don't meet their goals, so they can set up multiple goals to reach along the way so it's not the full burden and less of a chance to failure.
I just know theres a lot of people who want to help, but don't know how. Many hands make light work. Surely a lot more people know about this game now. If they don't want it to succeed then they can ignore it, if they do however, the proof will be in the pudding and the state of RI can take a chill pill.

I truly hope that you are able to realize your dream and continue to bring this world to life. I fell in love with Amalur when I played the demo and it is still my top recommendation for anyone wanting to play a fantasy RPG. If I had the money, you can be sure that I would be investing in your company.
