Guiuan, Eastern Samar by Visayas Command, AFP
A PAF Nomad aircracft flew over Guian, ESamar this morning from 1030H to 1045H. These are the pics we took. Guian bore the brunt of Super Typhoon Yolanda at its first landfall last Friday. One hundred percent of the structures either had their roofs blown away or sustained major damage. Nearly all coconut trees fell. We saw people in the streets, seemingly dazed. Trucks and cars were left in the streets where they were stopped in their tracks as Yolanda struck. We were probably the first outsiders to fly over the area since Friday and obviously, no relief goods have arrived there yet. It was almost lunchtime but there was no smoke from cooking fires. The 2.4 km runway is clear of debris and could still be used by C130 aircraft. Yolanda is probably worse than Pablo and the only reason why we have no reports of casualties up to now is that communications systems in Region 8 are down...

May the good Lord cleanse our political system..may He send good men who can protect our country...may this never be repeated again or at least effects like these will be diminished.

The entire world is at a stand still, in deep shock over this tragic natural catastrophe. The US Navy, where are they? Where are the AUssies? Where are the private airlines that have made huge profits bringing in tourist? Watch out, the Chinese are going to fill this power vacuum awfully fast. This is the time your national government must throw everything they have to bring potable water, food, medical supplies, tents, clothes to this area or they stand the chance of losing an entire nation to a anarchy. The Government will fall once cholera and other diseases begin to ravage the survivors. Manila needs to empty the city and send every able bodied man and woman to extract the dead and bring relief from starvation or there will be dire consequences.

I guess the Lord did provide an avenue for help by keeping the airstrip in good condition; otherwise, help can't come in quick. It's time we set aside for a while the politics and help our brethren in Visayas. I have relatives in Borongan, Samar, but Guian seems to be needing more help.

Kawawa ang mga Pilipino. They will spend their own money to rebuild their homes while billions of tax money went to the pockets of corrupt officials.

Why havent they asked for international help. Many countries could help. Australia has many c130's and other larger transport planes but no request for help. It is a tragedy that tjey have taken so long to respond.

I have relatives that live in Guiuan, Tacloban, and Suluan. I have not heard from them, nor have I heard any news about them.
Folks...the AFP has VERY limited resources. It has only two or three operational C-130s at this time. Those will be incredibly hard pressed to provide round the clock operations. Be patient with them and let them do their job. They will do their best with what YOU voters gave them as tools. When you people complain about how expensive the military is, remember remember times like this when the military could really use having more of those planes and helicopters. Even fighter aircraft with photo-recon capabilities could be doing surveys for the government while airplane and helicopter transports lift emergency aid. When the next election comes don't vote for idiot politicians who don't support defense spending.
Is it a bad time to say these things? No. Especially when many people are complaining that aid isn't being delivered. I want aid to be delivered to my relatives in those places I mentioned, but who and what will deliver them if the AFP (PA, PN, PMC, PAF, and PCG) aren't funded so they can be equipped to do their job? At this point we can only be patient with the AFP.
