Glion Human Rights Dialogue 2014, merkitsijänä Universal Rights Group
On 13th-14th May 2014, the Governments of Norway and Switzerland, supported by the Universal Rights Group, hosted a high-level two-day retreat in Glion, Switzerland, designed to provide an open platform for dialogue and freshthinking on the future of the international human rights system. The event brought together over 60 key human rights practitioners and thinkers, including key OHCHR and state officials, Treaty Body experts, Special Procedures mandate-holders and NGOs, to brainstorm in an informal setting about the key challenges facing the system and how best to overcome them. The outgoing High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, and the Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights, Ivan Simonovic were both in attendance.
On Thursday, 4th September 2014, the Governments of Norway and Switzerland, supported by Universal Rights Group, will hold a panel discussion on “Reflections on the future of the UN’s human rights pillar,” followed by a reception. At this meeting, a non-exhaustive summary of some of the key themes, discussions and recommendations from the Glion retreat - which have been compiled into an informal document - will be presented.
