Sierra Vista Raptors, 1/27/19 by Ronald Horii
Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve is a great place for viewing birds, particularly raptors. The highest parts of the preserve are at about 2000 feet. It overlooks a steep canyon, which drops down to about 600 feet in Alum Rock Park. Raptors catch the rising air currents and soar over the canyon, while looking for food. Often, they will be flying below the trails, so you're looking down on them. I walked down the Kestrel Trail to the Sierra Vista Trail and saw several raptors. Here are pictures.
