Santa Teresa Park Curie Fire Recovery, 7/12/18 vs. 1/7/19 by Ronald Horii
There was a 100-acre fire in Santa Teresa County Park on 7/10/18. It was called the Curie Fire. It mainly burned grass and some bushes on the hill between the Norred and Bernal Hill Trails. This is what the fire and firefighting efforts were like: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1879446278745552&type=1&l=07af8970a2

I scoped out the fire damage on 7/12/18: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1883119751711538&type=1&l=739b0dd8b0
You can see how the fire blackened the hills.

On 1/7/19, after several weeks of light rain, I came back to see how the vegetation is recovering. These are views from the Bernal Hill Trail. I tried to match up similar views between the two dates. You can see how grass is starting to grow back in the burned areas.

Have you noticed which shrubs and trees are making an appearance?
Local burned flat lots throw up chicory, dock, wild lettuce when it rains or get heavy fog. Local regs make landowners hydro-seed bare lots, or rarely (on huge lots) spray herbicide.

Poison oak and coyote brush started coming back months ago. Now it's mostly grasses. They didn't hydro-seed, and there's no need to. The hills always get lots of grass growth in the winter.
