Moon-Zoom Test, Santa Teresa Park, 10/22/18 by Ronald Horii
I was hiking down Bernal Road in Santa Teresa County Park in the evening on 10/22/18. I took some pictures of the park with the moon in the background. I thought I'd do a simple test and shoot pictures of the moon at various zoom settings. I have a Panasonic ZS50 12 MP compact travelzoom camera, with a 30X optical zoom range and 120X digital zoom range. (This is the ratio between the longest and shortest focal length, not the magnification.) I normally eschew using digital zoom (I call it "phoney zoom"). I thought I'd give a try for test purposes. The focal lengths quoted are the 35 mm camera equivalents. 50 mm is considered a "normal" lens, about what the human eye sees. Below that is wide angle. Above that is telephoto.
