Pioneer Day, Almaden Quicksilver County Park, 10/13/18 by Ronald Horii
On 10/13/18, the New Almaden Quicksilver County Park Association (NAQCPA) held their annual Pioneer Day Celebration at the Hacienda area of Almaden Quicksilver County Park, next to the Outdoor Mining Museum. It celebrated NAQCPA's 36th anniversary. The theme was the restoration of the interpretive signs at the Outdoor Mining Museum.
The Outdoor Mining Museum was dedicated on 10/8/11. Note the temporary fence that was around the museum, but there was no fence behind the signs:

The permanent fence was installed after the signs were installed. After 7 years of being exposed to sun and weather, the signs began to crack. They were still readable, but they didn't look good. So NAQCPA decided to replace the signs. However, what seemed like a quick job turned out to be harder than it looked. The signs have to be slid out from the top of the holders to replace them. Unfortunately, the signposts were installed so close to the fence, that the fence prevented sliding the signs out. Fortunately, the fence panels could be unscrewed to remove them. So each fence panel had to be removed to replace each sign. Unfortunately, one of the signs was right in front of a fence post, so the signpost had to be dug up and tilted back to replace the sign. This whole process ended up taking 2 days.
