Tarantula Hike at Canada del Oro and Calero 9/9/18 by Ronald Horii
This event was on Sunday afternoon, 9/9/18:
"Tracking the Wild Tarantula: Join Docents Paul and Joan in a search for the elusive arachnid on its fall walkabout. Come learn all about these fascinating creatures and dispel the myths about their existence. The hike will be out and back along the Longwall Canyon Trial and total about 2 miles. Please bring water to drink."

Paul and Joan led the hike, with help from OSA Educational Aide Richard and his wife Tanya. I also helped.

The hike started at the Rancho Canada del Oro staging area on Casa Loma Road. We followed the Longwall Canyon Trail through Calero County Park, and then into Canada del Oro. We turned around at the Catamount Trail junction. We didn't see any tarantulas on the way out, but we looked at the plants and trees. On the way back, we saw 4 tarantulas, all in Calero County Park.

In 2017, we found 1 tarantula: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1551011581589025&type=1&l=3fdb0d6b00
In 2016, we had a huge group and found 5 tarantulas: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1183239031699617&type=1&l=5a1430f0fc
