Little Uvas Creek Preserve Bat Hike, 9/8/18 by Ronald Horii
There was a bat hike at Little Uvas Creek Preserve on 9/8/18, led by docent Joan, with help from other Open Space Authority docents and staff. Joan, Paul, and I did a survey hike at Little Uvas on 7/19/18:

We saw lots of bats, so Joan scheduled 2 public hikes. Th first was on 9/1/18: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1969746919715487&type=1&l=568405cf9b
We saw even more bats than on our survey hike. There were flying all over the place, including overhead. The hike on 9/8 was a little different. Since sunset came earlier, we skipped the hike to the top of the Uvas Reservoir overlook. We went directly to the spot between the ponds and Joan started her talk and slideshow about bats. As she was talking, bats started to fly all over the place.
The last time, I got very few good bat pictures. I used my old SLR. This time, I came armed with a different camera. I borrowed my son's SLR and a fast normal lens. Unfortunately, I wasn't familiar with the camera or the lens, so while I got lots of bat pictures, they weren't very sharp. At least they show the presence of the bats.
