Kelley Park BioBlitz, 7/28/18 by Ronald Horii
On 7/28/18, Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful, headed by Deb Kramer, organized a BioBlitz at San Jose's Kelley Park. It was led by ecologist Merav Vonshak. A BioBlitz is a citizen scientist group effort to observe and record plants, insects, and animals, using the iNaturalist app. A large group gathered in the parking lot by the disk golf course. We split into multiple groups. I followed one group that went through the old walnut orchard, followed Coyote Creek in the picnic areas, then went into the Japanese Friendship Gardens. We had experienced guides who pointed out the birds, insects, and plants along the way. We photographed them and uploaded the pictures into iNaturalist, which recorded and helped to identify the species sighted.
