Friends of Santa Teresa Park's National Night Out, 8/7/18 by Ronald Horii
The second Tuesday in August is National Night Out (NNO) Day. Neighbors and neighborhood organizations all over the country hold meet-and-greet events where members of the community can meet each other and with public service agencies. The purpose is to promote public safety and reduce crime. Last year was the first time the Friends of Santa Teresa Park (FOSTP) organized an NNO at Santa Teresa County Park's Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch. Here are pictures from it: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1513190442037806.1073742234.100000405933924&type=1&l=fe307007a7
A few days later, the Family Fandango event was held by the County Parks in the same place. FOSTP helped with that too. Its purpose was to celebrate the cultural history of the historic ranch. This year, being shorthanded, the County Parks decided not to hold Fandango, but to partner with FOSTP to add cultural aspects to NNO. Several staff members came to help out with the activities. FOSTP organized the event, which was funded by a Beautify San Jose Grant from the city.
