Alviso Boat Tour, 8/10/18 by Ronald Horii
The inaugural boat tour of the Alviso Slough was held at Alviso Marina County Park on May 29, 2015, initiated by Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.927239590632897.1073741908.100000405933924&type=1&l=a35ce85c14
The tour used County Sheriff's patrol boats. Tours were offered to schools, but were limited by the capacity of the boats, which were not intended to carry large numbers of passengers. To accommodate more people, the County Parks Department ordered a much bigger 33-foot long boat, specifically designed for tours. After trial runs with park staff, the first public boat tour was held yesterday. The tours are called the Salt Marsh Safari. Today was the second day of tours. The purpose of the tours is to give people the experience of seeing the slough and salt ponds up close, while learning about the history, plants, animals, geography, and future plans for these wetlands.
