Thousand Oaks Park Woodland Area, San Jose, 7/9/18 by Ronald Horii
I saw a notice on the San Jose Parks Foundation's Facebook page about the dedication of the Thousand Oaks Park Woodland Area. This is what it said: "What a magnificent day at Thousand Oaks Park. This is a community, a neighborhood that did something truly amazing. Led by the indefatigable dynamic duo of Marsey Kahn and Jennifer Roberts, this neighborhood raised over $80,000 and installed a beautiful new trail in the Woodland Area of Thousand Oaks Park. Thank you to Dave Guthridge, who generously did the work at cost, and the hundred of volunteers who helped. Most of all, thanks to the donors who made this possible. This is an example of community at its best!"
I've been to Thousand Oaks Park before. It's near Branham and Almaden Expressway, east of the Guadalupe River. I went there on 7/9/18 to check it out. They've done a nice job cleaning it up and putting in paths and signs.

This is an entry by Michelle C.: "This is a separate designated area which is a separate conservation habitat, distinct from the main Thousand Oaks Park. Our neighborhood rescued this land from being desecrated by the housing authority. As a result of a great community effort from friends from near and far of our wildlife preserve. The community raised over $50,000 to preserve this space for generations to come. The city had this listed as a "vacant lot" which was in danger of unwanted development and destruction of the fragile habitat unless we stepped in.This habitat is home to a family of red tailed hawks and boasts live oak and valley oak trees as well as eucalyptus. There are plaques to educate people of the history of this area, which actually extends to Narvaez Avenue. You can see the pictures of the hawks.Sometimes you see foxes here. This section has paths and benches. It is already open to the public and unfortunately cigarette butts have already been left there on the paths. The ceremony and celebration is July 1st."
