Little Uvas Creek Preserve Hike, 7/5/18 by Ronald Horii
On 7/5/18, there was a guided hike at Little Uvas Creek Open Space Preserve. It is not yet open to the public, but can be visited on guided hikes. This is the description of this hike:
"Join Seasonal Educational Aide Richard Tejeda as he takes us on a behind the scenes tour of properties that are on their way to becoming open space preserves. This is a chance to discover and explore newly-protected open spaces with knowledgeable staff that will talk about the plants and wildlife found on these properties. This series of hikes will be from 3-4 miles long and range from easy to moderate. Bring water, lunch, a camera, sunscreen and/or a hat, and your sense of adventure!
Located in the Southern Santa Cruz Mountains, Little Uvas Creek is a 285-acre property consisting primarily of serpentine soils and grasslands, grey pine, and oak woodland. A total of five perennial ponds are located on the property. Docent-led hikes visit the ponds to watch Western pond turtles."
