Santa Teresa Park Plant Quiz by Ronald Horii
Santa Teresa County Park in San Jose has a long history. It has been ranch land with multiple owners from the 1840's. It is a mix of native and non-native vegetation. This is a quiz and exercise for naturalists and docents. I went for a hike on the Norred Trail to the Bernal Ranch, to Santa Teresa Spring, and the Bear Tree Lot. I took pictures of the plants along the way. All of these are in the park. See if you can identify the plants (the ones in the foreground), tell whether they are native or non-native, and for the biggest challenge, tell what human uses they have (like for food or for making things, historically or currently).
