Rancho San Vicente Hike, 4/25/18 by Ronald Horii
On 4/25/18, I helped to lead a hike in the Rancho San Vicente addition to Calero County Park. We took the Lisa Killough Trail to Lisa's Lookout, and returned the same way. Rancho San Vicente is notable for its wildflowers. That's because over half of its 966 acres is covered with serpentine soil, which promotes the bloom of native wildflowers. The early-season wildflowers, like goldfields, muilla, jeweled onions, and birdseye gilia, were past their peak. Later-season flowers like jewelflowers, ithuriel's spears, mariposa lilies, and linanthus were coming out. Longer-blooming flowers, like poppies, creamcups, monolopia, and monkeyflowers, were still blooming.

I led a hike on the same trail on 4/11/18. See the difference in the wildflowers:

I hiked part of the Lisa Killough Trail on 3/25/18, the day after the park opened:

I got these pictures just before sunset:

There was a dedication ceremony and a preview hike on the trail on 6/3/17:

I've been exploring Rancho San Vicente since 2009 and have helped to lead hikes there. Here are pictures:
