Uvas Canyon Waterfalls and Flowers, 4/13/18 by Ronald Horii
Uvas Canyon is the best place in Santa Clara County to see waterfalls. It covers 1174 acres in the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains. It includes steep, wooded canyons, with several creeks cascading down them, forming multiple waterfalls. It is at the end of Croy Road. Last year's heavy rains caused parts of Croy Road to wash out. The park had been inaccessible and closed since February of last year. The road was repaired, and the park reopened earlier in April. While we haven't had as much rain this year compared to last year, we've had enough to keep the creeks flowing. I went there on Friday 4/13/18 to see the park. The park fills up on the weekends and requires reservations. It's busy, but not full on weekdays. There was plenty of parking, and the parking lots were nearly empty by the time I left in the late afternoon. I went to see the waterfalls, starting from Lower Falls. I went up the Waterfall Loop Trail. These pictures are from that section. It was a clear sunny day. The rays of sunlight shining into the deep shade of the canyons made it tricky to get the right exposure. I used exposure bracketing and HDR processing on several of these shots.
