BioBlitz, Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve, 3/4/18 by Ronald Horii
On 3/4/18, a BioBlitz event was held at Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve, starting at Metcalf Road. A BioBlitz is a group event, with participants looking for plants, animals, and insects and reporting them via the iNaturalist app. Today's group gathered at Motorcycle County Park, which is adjacent to Coyote Ridge, then hiked along the ridgetop in Coyote Ridge looking for species to report. The BioBlitz was organized by ecologist Merav Vonshak. The hike was led by Open Space Authority Seasonal Educational Aid David Mauk, with help from docents Atul and Jen (and me). At about the 2-mile point, we split into two groups. Atul and Jen took one group farther along the ridgeline, while David led a group (which I followed) down the hill to a stock pond.
