Bernal Ranch Chicken Coop Shade Trees 2/2/02-2/1/18 by Ronald Horii
The Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch in Santa Teresa Park was officially dedicated on 6/29/02. Before then, it was under construction to open it up to the public. One of the projects there was a chicken coop, built as an Eagle Scout project by Neil Steiner. It was built between 2 large existing trees, which provided shade for the chickens and people watching the chickens. The trees were determined by park arborists to be diseased and were cut down at the end of 2011. There were no trees at all until 2 young coast live oak trees were planted there in August of 2016. They are still alive and are growing slowly.
This shows the dedication of the ranch and tells about its history, which dates back to the 1800's: http://www.stpfriends.org/BGJDed/BGJDed.htm
