Hike to Coyote Peak: Flowers and Views, 2/6/18 by Ronald Horii
2/6/18 was a very clear and warm day. I hiked up to Coyote Peak in Santa Teresa Park. I've been hiking up there several times a week in the past few weeks hoping to get some clear views. The top of Coyote Peak is one of the best viewpoints in the County. On a clear day, you can see north to Marin County and south to San Benito County. You can often see Mt. Tamalpais, with the skyline of San Francisco below it. On really clear days, you can see the Golden Gate Bridge towers. The sign on Coyote Peak shows some of those views. I helped take the pictures for it. Today was one of the clearest days I've seen at the peak this year, though I've seen clearer days. I took a lot of pictures with my little Panasonic ZS50 with its 30X zoom (15X maximum magnification, equivalent to a 750 mm lens). There was some haze in the distance, so I had to enhance the contrast of the telephoto shots in post-processing. I saw several wildflowers just popping out. They weren't there last week. The warm weather may bring about an early wildflower season.

Your telephoto pictures are very clear. Are you using a tripod or monopod?

OK, guess I'd better dust off my monopod hiking pole, grab my Panasonic ZS50 and get up there! Your shots inspire.

It was a pretty clear day, but not as clear as this November day in 2015, right after the rains washed away the haze in the air: https:// www.facebook.com /media/set/ ?set=a.101039986 8983535.1073741 986.10000040593 3924&type=1&l=c 8dc790540

On 11/25/15, after a rainy day, I hiked the Hidden Springs Trail from the Pueblo Area to Coyote Peak. It was a… More very clear day. I could see all the way to Marin County. From down in the valley, I could see there was a dusting of snow on Mt. Hamilton, so I went up to Santa Teresa Park to get a better view. Here are pictures.
