Almaden Quicksilver Plant Hike, 1/14/18 by Ronald Horii
On 1/14/18, I accompanied this hike at Almaden Quicksilver County Park. It was organized by the Open Space Authority and included members of the California Native Plant Society. It was led by OSA docents Arvind and Steve, with help from docents Joan, Joerg, Craige, Vicky, and me. I'm also a County Parks docent and a member of the New Almaden Quicksilver County Park Association (NAQCPA), so I talked about the park and NAQCPA's projects in the park. Here's the description of the hike:
"Plant Communities for Beginners. Are you interested in learning more about our local plant communities? Join Authority Docent Steve and the California Native Plant Society for a walk up the English Cap Trail to Church Peak and back down via the Deep Gulch Trail. Expect to see scrub, chaparral, mixed evergreen forest, and riparian plant communities and learn to identify some of these plants with enthusiastic docents. The distance covered is 4 miles with 1000’ of elevation gain/loss and will be a strenuous hike. Please meet at the Hacienda Entrance to the park and bring water and a lunch."
