New Santa Teresa Park Nature Trail Signs, 11/7/17 by Ronald Horii
The Laurel Canyon Nature Trail in Santa Teresa Park is an offshoot of the Ohlone Trail near the Santa Teresa Golf Course. It goes deep into a steep canyon and ends at a seasonal waterfall. There was an Eagle Scout project in 1981 by Scout Ron Murphy that installed signposts marking trees and other plants. Over the years, vandalism and the weather have taken their toll on these signs. Also, some of the plants were no longer near their signs. This year, there was an Eagle Scout project by Scout Ethan Chen to replace the posts and update the signs. The posts were placed in the exact same locations as the old posts to simplify the permitting process. The signs now include QR codes that give more information about the subjects of the signs. The codes display text when decoded. No Internet access is required. Here are pictures of the signs and decoded QR codes.
